Behavioral Health Unit at Lady of the Sea Hospital,
now known as Milestones, specializes in in-patient
and outpatient care for people aged 55 and above. The goal of Milestones
is to maintain and improve each patient’s quality of life
and enhance the patient’s self-respect and dignity. Consistent
with the holistic treatment philosophy, equal emphasis is placed
on the healing of the mind, body and spirit.
The
ten-bed unit is led by Dr. S. Ken Smith a Board Certified Psychiatrist
specializing in Gerontology. The program features comprehensive
medical and psychological evaluation, individualized treatment plans,
individual, group and family therapy, coping and life skills training,
medication management and education as well as individualized continuing
care plan for discharged patients and their families.
Milestones
at Lady of the Sea Hospital is designed to diagnose and treat the
complex problems of older adults. In our program, each patient has
a treatment team of medical and clinical professionals. They work
together to pinpoint the nature of the problem and help the patient
and the family begin the recovery process.
Milestones
provides free initial assessments performed by a Mental Health Professional
to assist in determining the need for treatment as well as a diagnosis.
The diagnosis is formed following a comprehensive evaluation of
the patient’s physical, mental and emotional condition.
In
groups and individual sessions, our program focuses on the stressful
issues associated with aging such as grief, loneliness, coping with
illness or physical disability, changing roles and status, death
and dying, and conflicts with adult children.
Milestones
at Lady of the Sea Hospital has been award the Circle of
Excellence award through PSI. The Board of Directors of
Lady of the Sea General Hospital proudly congratulates the staff
of Milestones for this impressive accomplishment.
